Your Cell will Teach You Everything

“In Scetis, a brother went to see Abba Moses and begged him for a word. And the old man said: ‘Go sit in your cell, and your cell will teach you everything.’ " -Philokalia

On June 15 I will begin a year's pilgrimmage of consecration to the Great Way. One of the masters of the ancient Desert tradition in which I teach and practice, Abba Or, said that if one is to be a follower of the Way one must either flee from people, or make oneself a fool before people in many things. I have not attained such detachment but I have spent much of my life making myself a fool before people, so perhaps now is the time to flee for a time from my usual patterns to a sanctuary space where I immerse my soul/consciousness in the practice of that meditation which I teach. This way I can more fully "walk my talk." In my teaching of the practice of Ceaseless meditation in Prayer of the Heart, I have encouraged others that the journey of unitive love is ceaseless presence, ceaseless self-offering to our Heart's Desire. Grace and Providence have opened a door for my life's energies to be thus consecrated for this coming year. Let it be a year of wholehearted Freedom and Givenness!
